Youth Action House are a group of young people aged between 11 and 24 who meet once a week to tackle young people’s issues around housing and homelessness and are currently working on a campaign for young people's housing rights.
Previous projects have included producing a booklet designed to help young people who may find they are faced with homelessness in Bournemouth. The pocket sized 'Hitchhikers' guide includes advice on benefits, support services and practical advice. The booklet is specific to the Bournemouth area. You can order them from the Millennium Volunteers office by phoning (01202) 467 000
Youth Action House have also carried out surveys amongst their peers in a bid to discover why young people in Bournemouth end up homeless or in unsuitable housing and what difficulties and obstacles they may face. Results of these surveys have been used to help the agencies that provide housing services to better understand young people’s needs.
By being involved with Youth Action House, young people have an opportunity to learn new skills and set up and plan projects that are important to them.
Youth Action House is supported by Millennium Volunteers, Connexions, Bournemouth Youth Service and other partner agencies.
If you are interested in joining the group please contact Georgina Mitchell (MV Project Worker) on 07973 233192 or Tim Oliver (Democracy Worker in Bournemouth) on 07736 853728.
