First of all I would like to say a very big Thank You to Michael Eavis and his daughter Emily for giving everyone the chance to witness such a brilliant festival this year at Worthy Farm
Glastonbury featured so many great musicians spread across the vast area with everything from a visit to the cinema to checking out the best musical talent around at the many stages.
The John Peel Stage, The Acoustic Stage, dance Village, The Other Stage
Pyramid Stage and The Cabaret Tent as well as many other places to see.
I caught the following acts and thought the sound quality was superb.
The Ting Tings
They got the crowd going and I was surprised to see that they are a duo of guitar and drums; they make a great sound and had everyone singing along to their songs. The drummer was using a Yamaha drum kit with Zildjian cymbals
The MGMT’S
From New York, were also very good and had the crowd screaming for more. Ludwig drums Paiste cymbals.
The Editors
They also had a great time and it was nice to see the audience jumping around to their songs. This years crowd was a lot younger than last year and the many younger bands will obviously go on to better things.
The Fratellis
They had the crowd going mad with their song “Chelsea Dagger” this was a great performance from such a great band.
The Kings of Leon
Friday night belonged to this superb band that has spent the past Five years touring all over the world supporting some of the biggest bands on the planet. They have just finished a tour that took them across America supporting Pearl Jam.
Plying to 100,000 fans plus each venue. The Kings performance at this year’s festival will surely put them down as being one of the very best live bands in the world. They are all related. Nathan Followill the bands great drummer says we are the biggest little secret about. Michael Eavis booked them Three months ago after being so impressed with them. Nathan is endorsed by DW drums Sabian cymbals.
SATURDAY’S REVIEW
It was a great performance from all of the bands and artists that played today. The weather was lovely and for once the sun was shining, the following artists are the one’s that stood out today.
The Wombats, Goldfrapp, the Raconteurs, Duffy,
The Wombats played a very energetic set and the crowd loved them they are going to be a lot bigger the more gigs that they do. They had the crowd singing along to their songs so they already have a big fan base.
It is rumoured that Paul McCartney might be producing some songs from this great band with Liverpool connections. They all met at Paul McCartney’s LIPA School of performing arts in Liverpool, I would like to wish you all the very best from everyone here at www.offthestreets.co.uk the drummer was using a red sparkle Ludwig drum kit and Paiste cymbals
The Raconteurs played very well with lots of big power chords and some really great guitar work. Jack’s vocals were superb and the driving drumming kept the whole crowd screaming for more. This was a great performance and one that will do the band a lot of good from this performance, the drummer was using Ludwig drums and Paiste cymbals.
Duffy’s performance was superb, she really has a great voice and it was nice to see her and her amazing band clearly enjoying their performance. With so many Welsh flags flying just in front of this very sunny day.
Her voice was just like on all of her recordings and she sang her hits very well. She had a very tight band behind her. The drummer was using a lovely black sparkle drum kit with Sabian cymbals.
Amy Winehouse came onto the stage and she got a big applause, it was a shame at what followed as everything was going well until the Fourth song. I cannot comment on what was in her drink but as soon as she started drinking it things went downhill fast and it got worse.
I must be totally honest her band played great and the backing singers/ dancers were on top form. It was clear to see that she was forgetting her words when she gave all of her band a solo; they were all clearly excellent musicians. The drummer knocked out a very tasteful drum solo using a Yamaha drum kit with Zildjian cymbals.
Amy started punching someone in the crowd, after an over friendly fan got too close to her. It was interesting to hear what Michael Eavis said on radio 2’s news bulletin. He said when Amy walked past him she said Michael can I headline next years festival, Michael said he would talk about it with his staff.
Jay-z, came onstage miming to Oasis’s song Wonderwall, it was obviously a dig at Noel Gallagher’s comments that were printed in the tabloids over the gig not selling out. The reports were that this years Glastonbury Festival did sell out but on the day.
Jay-z was an interesting act to watch and his band were great performers, the crowd were loving every minute of this performance and singing and dancing to the hits that were to follow. It was clear to see that Michael Eavis and his daughter Emily had made a very good choice at bring Jay-z and his entourage over to headline this day.
SUNDAY’S PERFORMANCE
With a full support show starting at 12.00 noon it was the performance by Neil Diamond that clearly had every member of this festival dancing and singing along to his hit records. Neil was enjoying himself and he was backed by a twelve piece band complete with three backing singers.
We were treated to hit after hit of a great performance. Probably the best song that he sang was the hit single from years ago Sweet Caroline when he got to the last chorus he shouted Now it’s your turn to sing and the fan’s didn’t disappoint him they were singing and shouting Sweet Caroline.
The drummer was using a beautiful DW drum kit with Sabian cymbals.
Mark Ronson and his band played a great set, the band were joined by a string quartet as well as Mark having a few guest singers. The biggest applause went to Lilly Allen who walked out from the side of the stage the crowd went a bit wild. Lilly dedicated a song to her Nan who she said had sadly died the day before. Mark Ronson is a gifted musician as well as a very in demand Producer. This was a very good performance from a tight bunch of musicians. The drummer was using DW drums and Sabian cymbals.
The Zutons were on fine form as it was clear to see what constant gigging can do for your performance. This band is constantly on the road touring and promoting their songs, they are a favourite band with the many youngsters that were here this weekend. The biggest applause that they got is when they announced they were to play their hit single Valerie, that was made famous by Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson.
Funny as it seems mark Ronson joined them to play Valerie and it was the Third time this song was played over the weekend as both Amy and Mark had both played it in their set. This was an outstanding performance from one of the very best bands to come from Liverpool with the mighty Sean Payne on drums. I must admit Dave McCabe writes some great songs. Sean Payne uses Premier drums/Zildjian Cymbals
The Verve closed this Sunday’s performance with a great set of material.
They were obviously promoting songs from their new album, and there were the classics like Lucky Man, The drugs don’t work and unfinished symphony in there as well. The band played very well and it was great to see them back were they belonged headlining this truly amazing Three day festival featuring some of the very best music around.
It is always a shame when a popular band splits up but this one had that happy ending when the played together at a rehearsal studio in their home town just to see what it would be like.
They decided to give it another go and I am sure you will agree with me the made the right decision. The drums were D drums and Sabian Cymbals.
I would like to express my thanks to Michael and Emily Eavis, all of the sound crew, lighting crew, roadies, and everyone involved in this truly outstanding concert. Thank you once again for an unbelievable three days of great music.
