Paul Weller Gig Poole Lighthouse Sunday 3/12/06
This gig sold out in minutes, so I knew it was going to be a great atmosphere. Paul Weller, Steve White, Damon Mincheller and Steve
Craddock took to the stage at 8.45pm the applause that greeted them was
great and Paul looked very relaxed in a black Tee shirt. They kicked off
with a great version of Hung Up and went into Sunflower of which
featured a great drum rhythm provided by the mighty Steve White. It was
just like their greatest hits as hit after hit followed. Wild Wood had
the whole of the audience singing along to the words and at one point
Weller stopped singing and was clearly enjoying this gig, this one is
for all the lover's in the house "You do something to me" went down
really well. Great tracks that stood out were Broken Stones, Peacock
Suits.
Paul Weller is a very talented Musician as he took the odd guitar solo
and augmented the rest of the band while playing the piano, then played
Tamborine along with Steve Craddock who was playing percussion. Steve
Cradock was on Top form and his guitar solos were breathtaking. The gig
was driven along by Steve White and Damon Minchella who were both
outstanding. Steve White played a very techical and lovely drum solo
while in the middle of Gilded Splinters, I had heard on the grapevine
that next year is going to be relatively quiet for Paul weller and his
band. Please don't leave us waiting too long, this was a outstanding
performance.

Mark Schulman has joined Pink, Mark has played some huge gigs in his career. I remember seeing him in action with Simple Minds here at The Bournemouth International Centre many years ago, Mark is a great drummer and he say's that this gig with Pink is great and he is enjoying the touring with America's own rock princess. Pink have completed a very successful tour of Europe and they are currently playing dates here in Britain. They played The Bournemouth international Centre last Monday and they were sensational to say the least.
Mark has worked with the following artists and bands Simple Minds, Billy Idol, Cher, plus he has his own band called Velvet Revolver. Mark started touring with Pink in July this year, he say's that we did Three weeks in the States. I was substituting for her old drummer Mylious Johnson, and they offered me the gig on a permanent basis. This tour has been absolutely brilliant and sometimes i want to pinch myself because life is so great.

If you are a fan of The Scissor Sisters you will no doubt agree with me that the recent gig here in sunny Bournemouth at The B I C was a great one. The drummer from the band had taken ill as the tour was about to start so the band had to use another drummer for the tour.
It was nice to read a glowing article about Steve White's drumming performance at this years Drumfest 2006 the article say's that Steve performed in his usual impeccable style, and he was assisted by long- time rhythm section cohort Damon Minchella. Locking into a funky groove, set up by Damon. Steve unleashed a blistering rhythm that drove along at an intense pace.
I am looking forward to this Sunday as i am going to see Steve in action at The Lighthouse Theatre in Poole Steve is playing with his usual band Paul Weller. I am hoping to have a drink with Steve and the band after the gig, as i am going with the staff team from that great drum shop Poole Percussion. I will let you all know how the night went, in my drumming page next week.

It was great to read about the mighty Travis Barker, who made a very
sensible comment for all of you young drummers out there. Travis say's
that you should always practice your drumming rudiments, beats and
rhythms with a metronome. He also say's try and make the metonome your
best friend, and take it everywhere with you and use it all of the time.
This will help you in your band situation and you will eventually be
able to keep time with the musicians you are working with. If you don't
want to practice with a metronome then it's a waste of time playing
drums.
I would like to share with you a quote that was taken from a fantastic
interview in this month's Rhythm magazine with Jason Bonham, Jason say's
that his dad John Bonham was a very quiet man and it was only when he
had a few drinks that he changed into Bonzo.
No matter what people may say about John Bonham he will always be
respected as one of the best drummers in the world. I know that when
drum magazines have a competition to find the best beat's or rhythm's of
all time John Bonham's name is always at the top of all drummers list's.
He is probably one of the most talked about drummers, as he is often
mentioned to this day in interview's with up and coming young drummers,
when they are asked who were you influenced by most youngsters will
refer to his name.
I still watch the video that Led Zeppelin made all them years ago "The
Song Remains The Same" and watching Mr Bonham in action still does it
for me.
