Thank you for all of the good messages and support for this drummers information page.
With The Kaiser Chiefs and Franz Ferdinand, dominating the music charts. It was great to hear that music stores across Great Britain have sold loads of musical equipment. These figures were recently published in a daily news paper, The Great British Music Industries Association have revealed that 470,000 electric guitars and 520,000 acoustic guitars have been sold plus the many thousands of drumkits. It looks like the future music scene is going to be very healthy for a long time to come.
It was also very interesting to hear that to co inside with this huge demand for musical equipment, that groups of music teachers will be visiting shopping centre's to give FREE LESSONS. (i will keep you all informed about this when it happens) The total money spent on musical equipment this year is just over £100 million, that's more than 200,000 up on 2004 and more than double the figure for 1999.
I often say to youngster's that if you would like to take up and learn a musical instrument, why not go to a youth centre that specialises in your chosen instrument. I remember when i wanted to learn how to play the drums, i was paying £10 per hour for tuition this was in 1972. In those day's we did'nt have as many opportunities as youth clubs of today. Youngsters come to my youth centre and they pay 50p subs and they know that they will learn how to play drums and percussion in an environment that is very friendly and safe, plus they are constantly learning new rhythms and beats every time they come to the youth centre.
The Rolling Stones have just recently played the British dates of their world tour and the reviews were great to say the least. The Stones music has always been driven along by the great Charlie Watts, look out for the feature on Charlie coming very soon in September, October will feature Jimmy Hendrix's brilliant drummer Mitch Mitchell, November will be Ginger Baker from the super group "Cream" plus the work Ginger had done with Eric Clapton and to finish off 2006 i thought i would do a feature on the drumming legend Hal Blaine, just to give you an idea how popular Hal Blaine was as a session drummer he has a collection of 363 Gold Discs, from the hit's that he played drums on. Plus all of the many other records that he played on. Hal say's that if he cleaned each of his Gold Disks each day he would have Two days offas there are 365 day's in a year
Well my lunch break is over, i must get back to work
