We were treated to one of the finest displays of drumming last weekend
as Elton John and his band played The Fitness First Football Stadium
here in sunny Bournemouth, the drummers name is Nigel Olsen. When i was
learning to play the drumkit back in the 70's i used to listen to this
guy, he is just one of the super drummers around. Nigel was using D.W
drums one of the many kit's that he has been given by the company.
(D.W drums sound like no other drums and the team behind the company go
on hunts for different types of timber from all over the world. I will
be doing a feature for you drummers on this drum company shortly)
I heard that Nigel Olsen was on top form and never put a beat out of
place, Nigel always signs his drumskins before each performance. This is
something that he has been doing for the many years that he has been playing.
I also heard that Simply Red's performance was spectacular, Mick and the
band are driven by the mighty talents of Pete Lewinson another great
player, Pete used to work for Annie Lennox before he landed the gig with
Simply Red. They played alot of their older material as well as some new
stuff all in all it was a superb performance.
